Many decorative painting books assume the reader knows how to paint.  This book truly starts at the beginning.  The author has been a painting instructor and director of education for a major paint company for many years and knows how to instruct beginners.  Her easy painting style and thorough instructions will ensure success.  The artist uses very simple designs such as a single sunflower, or a pear, or a leaf as a beginning.  Worksheets show how to paint these simple elements.  The she shows how to create interesting backgrounds and artistic placement of the designs to create projects that don't look elementary - but look refined.  There are five basic motifs that are taught -- with three projects done with each of the designs.  Each project is painted on a different wood surface and features different colors, interesting background effects, and unique placement of the designs.
